Opened in June 2017, The Mad Hunter is an elegant Restaurant.
We are the perfect venue for your intimate event.
Travis and Ollie have known each other for a good few years. They worked together in the seafood pub company. The idea for The Mad Hunter is one they have both dreamed of since they were kids. Somewhere to go if you want something different, something quirky, something with a South African twist. Whether it’s a nice glass of a wine, amazing food and great hospitality.
In the evening The Mad Hunter transforms into a restaurant with low lit lights, candles, great wines, a range of gins, ever changing specials board for the adventurous and our evening menu.
Travis - Chef
I studied at the Fusion School of cookery in Durban, South Africa, where I got a diploma in global cuisine with distinctions. Worked at numerous fine dining restaurants across Durban.
I have spent a lot of time abroad, hence my wide range of cuisines. I moved to England in 2006 and have since worked as head chef at The Stork Inn. I also worked as head chef for the Seafood Pub Company and more recently at the Wagon and Horses in Lancaster.
My passion for food stems from my mother and gran, I grew up with them always cooking and baking. My favourite cuisines are anything Asian inspired as well as South American and of course… South African.
Oliver - Front of House
I remember telling my friends when I was young that my dream was to one day own my own restaurant. I've worked in the industry my whole working life, which is over a decade. I've worked my way up from a pot washer to working in the kitchens at a basic level and waiting on tables finally to become one of the managers at several different establishments.
I was proprietor of The Finery, a food and wine speciality store priding itself on local produce. Over the years I have gained prized local produce contacts of which use at The Mad Hunter to date.
Food and wine are my ultimate passion, I specialise in wine pairing, gin cocktails and enjoy holding wine and gin tasting events.
